An Incomplete Expression

And it all ended,
The final verdict was handed
The bridge that helped many emotions cross
Now looked ugly, broken & utterly gross.

What was it that tore it apart
What made them angry, what made them rude,
What made them stupid, what made their thinking so crude,
What made them hateful, what made them cry,
How come the sweetest fruit ever, suddenly turn dry?

No, they did not really understand,
It was bitter, it was tough,
Yet that moment was so subtle, so imminent,
It looked as if it was the work of God’s own hand.

Moment! Moment in time, one might ask?
Nah, the end was long & stretched,
It did not happen in a day or over a weekend,
An amend was followed by a break followed by yet another amend.

But the moment! It was there all along,
Rearing it’s head over and over again,
Because of the war that they were fighting – both of them,
No not with each other, but within
War with that moment, that kept coming back.
